DeKalb County housing costs are outpacing income, making home ownership unaffordable for those earning under $100,000. Over half of renters pay more than 30% of their income due to high population growth, construction costs, and insufficient new housing. This information is from DeKalb Commissioner Michelle Long Spears' website.

DeKalb County is creating its first Comprehensive Housing Plan to tackle these issues. In March, community meetings were held, including one at the Tobie Grant Recreation Center on March 18 with a panel of housing experts. AHFEID Executive Director Gregory White noted the absence of input from

unhoused community members.
