“We were homeless. I’ve never in my life been homeless.

Being homeless with a twelve-year-old  like I said, so you know, 9 months of being homelessness and struggling to pay for a hotel room, right?

Just putting myself in the right areas around the right  people, it was all God. And you guys as well. You guys are definitely definitely needed.”

Sevyn is a single father of a teenage girl. They were living in a motel and were struggling to find a way out.

“We were there in the hotel for a moment, and then the hotel fees got a little bit too harsh that way I couldn't maintain. We were living in my vehicle for almost 3 weeks, I made some more money and was able to get a room again for a couple more weeks.I wouldn’t wish the hotel on no one.I can’t tell you the level of depression I was feeling. “

He heard about A Home For Everyone In DeKalb from a mutual friend. We paid the security deposit for his new apartment and after a few hiccups, they were able to move in.

“I can't believe how fast it came through for me.

I thought it was a scam or a joke, but on the phone it was saying I got approved

You really won't know the feeling, honestly, until you walk into your own apartment because it's just, it's a feeling of relief, of weight being lifted.”

Sevyn is very grateful for his apartment but he was also deeply honest about his continued struggles. He owns his own car detailing business and recently, his car broke down.

“I’m dealing with a second hurdle now. I’ve got to find me a car.

I just feel so trapped, so so trapped beyond words.

I had a work vehicle. It actually died on me, it’s been about six and a half days now, so yeah, yeah, I'm dealing with that right now,

And I'm trying to stay strong. You know, it's trying to be positive. I'm trying to be grateful.

My daughter and I was just having a conversation the night before last. She's asking what we're going to do if you can't get a car or get around?

I'd never thought I would be in a situation like this, and it was crazy that I've lived in bigger homes than this, but it's just it's like I cannot say.

Life has a way of humbling you, you know?”
