AHFEID board president and co-founder Rob Johnson got a little love from from fellow board members as he and his wife Carolyn get ready to move from Atlanta to Hadley Massachusetts.

He will be passing on the role of board president to Phil Cuffey but his impact on the organization cannot be overstated. Johnson, after retiring from The Atlanta Food Bank, was looking for something meaningful to get involved with post retirement. He and co-founder Shelly Fine decided to launch an organization to fill the gaps in homelessness services in DeKalb County. The roles he took on include: driving a church bus to take people in need of warming centers, handing out MARTA cards, creating and keeping up a google drive to keep our organization organized, attending more committee meetings then we can count!

Here's a few words from Rob as he reflects on his time creating and growing the wonderful work we've done together.

"I'm well-prepared to continue serving as a member of our A Home For Everyone In DeKalb Board.  Zoom it will be! And I'm quite excited that my fellow board members and new Executive Director Greg White have also WELL prepared for this "succession."

Looking back on our eight nine-year history that began with Compassionate Atlanta connecting me with our co-founder Shelly Fine, I chuckle to think of OTHER sets of names we could have adopted for this evolving organization:

  • A Winter Freeze Shelter For Everyone In DeKalb

  • A Winter Freeze Shelter Transportation Link For Everyone In DeKalb

  • A Rent Eviction Prevention Service For Everyone In DeKalb

  • A Water, Snack, Food, Toiletries, Sleeping Bag, Blanket, ETC. Help For Everyone In DeKalb

  • A Hot And Other Severe Weather Help For Everyone In DeKalb

  • A Men's Transitional Housing For Everyone In DeKalb

  • A Strengthening Resource Directories For Everyone Facing Homelessness In DeKalb

  • A Collaborating Unhoused Services Advocate For Everyone In DeKalb

And what's to come!?

  • A Collaborative Women's Workforce Transition Program For Every Woman In DeKalb (And Georgia!)

  • A Family And Children Homeless Prevention For Everyone In DeKalb

  • ......and who knows what more."
