Henry (Faulk) Harrison was one of the original residents at the Snapfinger transitional home owned by A Home For Everyone In DeKalb (AHFEID). This home offers a safe place to stay for 3 men with very low income. Residents work with a case manager to help them reach their financial and employment goals. After 6 months, Henry was able to move to his own apartment. You can read the original story from June 2023 here.

After two years, he's now living in senior housing and we sat down with him again to find out how he’s doing.“When I got into the apartment on Memorial Drive, y’all of course helped me to move in, I was able to keep my rent up, pay all my bills, and have money for my food so I didn’t have to go to food pantries.

"I liked that part of my life. I also had MARTA Mobility going so I liked that too. I had to stay there till I reached 62 years old. Now I’m living in Clairmont Oaks, a senior residence. I’ve been living here for 6 months. I lived in an apartment off Memorial Drive for 18 months. When I first came to Atlanta, I lived in an extended stay for two years. It took everything I had. I didn’t start making any progress again until I got into the apartment. “

You were one of the first residents at the Snapfinger house.“Yes, I was like a guinea pig. One of the first little piglets. I was at Snapfinger for about 7 months. I really wanted my own place and I was able to get in. I’m more content now. I’ve been waiting for a singing job but that hasn’t happened so I’ve been sitting around here. I need a vacation. I need some more money.”

So you’ve been just getting by? “Isn’t everyone? I’m stable but I need more money where I can go see my children. My life isn’t perfect. “

One key relationship that was set up by AAHFEID was with his friendly visitor, volunteer Reinout Vogt. “He was very helpful. He took me to get my vital records over at the health department. He helped me move from over there to here. I couldn’t have done it on my own because I didn’t have a moving fee. He took me to the dentist and also when I had surgery. He’s helped me just a little bit along as I needed it. I think Reinout is a very good person.“
